Course overview

Complex problems affect management work. Delegates examine consequences for operations and profitability, develop problem-solving mindsets and methods for recognising, classifying and analysing different problems, including how to separate symptoms from causes. Structured analysis follows. A model and six-step approach lead into root cause analysis and corrective action, with the aim of developing lasting responses.

Decision disciplines include critical thinking and the assessment of uncertainty, with attention to subjective and objective approaches. Creative methods address situations requiring idea generation, including brainstorming, opposite thinking, what-if questions and mind maps. Delegates also examine leadership of creative teams, people-related problems and the effects of groupthink. Influencing and stakeholder persuasion connect the proposed solution with support and implementation. Exercises use delegates' work situations, with groups challenging other groups' conclusions and defending their own.
