Poorly designed measures, weak alignment and unclear governance can make it difficult to use KPIs for strategic decisions. The programme examines how to evaluate indicator effectiveness and identify gaps in a structured audit. Delegates study the design and management of KPIs, including SMART criteria, different indicator types and their connection with organisational goals.
Ownership must be clear. Governance sessions address who is responsible for indicators, how committees and structures are designed, and how policies and procedures establish accountability and transparency. Data sources, quality, reliability and reporting accuracy receive attention in both the audit and governance work. Links with risk management and compliance are also considered.
Reporting turns findings into decisions. Delegates examine dashboards, scorecards and visualisation principles, along with the frequency and structure of performance reviews. Responses to underperformance include corrective action and communication of results. Continuing review, benchmarking, incentives, appraisal and change management support the work on improvement. Agenda exercises include conducting a KPI audit, building a dashboard and completing an end-to-end audit and governance design with an action plan.
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
