Course overview

An incident can disrupt production and affect a business's reputation across borders. Crisis Management Team (CMT) and Emergency Response Team (ERT) leaders must decide what information they need, who should be involved and which response supports the organisation's objectives. The programme examines these decisions alongside the leadership behaviours that can worsen an emergency.

Four critical areas of emergency response provide part of the course's leadership content. Delegates examine five leadership levels and fourteen characteristics of an effective crisis leader, including psychological readiness and discipline. Options must be assessed quickly. Sessions address making judgements and redefining standards as conditions change, then connect response planning with security, asset protection and business continuity.

Practical work includes crisis communication exercises and a major incident simulation. Delegates consider on-scene command, staff welfare and morale, as well as press conferences and television interviews. The final day addresses multi-agency exercises, testing plans and procedures, and writing critique reports that lead to implemented recommendations.
