Course overview

Isolated quality inspections rarely eliminate systemic defects across modern production and service environments. When frontline operators view quality as an external policing activity, waste persists and customer satisfaction declines. This course sets out the operational toolset and cultural enablers needed to embed Total Quality Management (TQM) across business units.

Delegates review the foundations of quality assurance, contrasting teachings from pioneers including Deming, Juran and Crosby while evaluating Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) calculations and ISO 9001 alignment. Coursework addresses the human dimension of quality, exploring team problem-solving and participative management techniques.

Technical sessions introduce the seven classic quality control tools, 5S workplace routines, Poka Yoke mistake-proofing and Lean waste reduction. Delegates work through structured improvement frameworks including Kaizen, PDCA cycles, the Eight-Step methodology, the Toyota A3 report format, Quality 4.0 concepts and multi-level competitive benchmarking.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Compare major quality management philosophies, frameworks and models established by Deming, Juran and Crosby
  2. Identify core organisational enablers and participative management practices that support TQM adoption
  3. Apply the seven classic quality control tools and diagnostic diagrams to eliminate process defects
  4. Execute structured improvement methodologies including Kaizen, PDCA cycles, the Eight-Step model and Toyota A3 reporting
